Golf is no longer the domain of men. More and more women wish to try their hand at it, and it is not without reason that Dr Irena Eris organizes tournaments for women since a couple of seasons.

When you take a closer look, golf has a lot to do with dancing – the rhythm, precision, control, hips and legs movements. That may be the reason for hitting a golf ball to be called a ‘swing’. During a walk, apart from a factual oxygenation of the body, one can talk freely about matters worth or not worth discussing. An hour play of golf allows to burn 412 calories, which is as much as a half an hour struggle with salsa, cha-cha, or any other form of workout alike.

What is also important, is that golf is one of not so many sport disciplines that allow whole families to participate. A five hour walk around the course is quite a feat for the young ones.

Apart from attainable positive effects of playing golf, such as firm hips and thighs, it is worth mentioning that a golf course very much reminds of a Vogue-style catwalk. The greatest fashion designers not only do find inspiration there, but it is also more often that they design and advertise equipment with their names – bags, clubs or balls to name a few. Who knows, maybe next season it will be possible to obtain a Chanel-branded tee (a stand for a golf ball). As for now, the Chanel golf equipment consists only of clubs and golf bags. The cost altogether is $3,760 ($2,965 for a bag and $795 for the clubs), which is around PLN 11,600. A Burberry golf bag is a dedicated option for those, who value the English style. Check-pattern fans will have to pay $335, which is nearly PLN 960.

Here are some basic rules – what to wear for a golf course (for men and women).

An essential element of golf wardrobe is a polo shirt. An usual t-shirt is unacceptable. Women are allowed to wear variants with no sleeves. On cold days a vest or a jumper can be put on top, but not a sweatshirt. A wind jacket will protect us from light rain.

Pants should be made of canvas and be worn with a belt. Forget about jeans or sweatpants. On warm days it is acceptable to wear knee-length shorts. Ladies can play in skirts, also reaching to the knees. Shoes are of the utmost importance. Professional golf shoes have spikes. They do not slide on grass and allow to maintain a stable position while playing golf.

A golf player should also wear a glove. On the left hand if right-handed, and on the right one if left-handed. A glove protects from skin abrasions and allows to hold clubs firmly. It is made of thin, flexible leather or a different leather-like material.

A player is protected from the sun by wearing a golf cap, a peaked cap or an eyeshade. Some play wearing a straw hat, which also fits within the golf etiquette.

If these rules seem to strict for anyone, colors seem to be an appropriate alternative manner of expressing individuality. Golf players like vivid colors, which make them stand out from the green grass. However, retro enthusiasts wear checked pants, breeches and long socks.
